Phil Collins, on opening night of his North American tour, Oct. 5

On May 7, Phil Collins revealed that his Not Dead Yet, Live tour would be coming to North America for the first time in 12 years. Five months later, the tour began October 5 in Sunrise, Fla., near Ft. Lauderdale. (The veteran musician began his comeback on June 2, 2017, in the U.K. but after just four dates, he suffered a serious fall in his London hotel room. Since then, he’s done dates in Europe and South America, and has scheduled shows for Australia and New Zealand in 2019.)

Collins has had back surgery as well as hip issues in recent years and now drums only sparingly. (The 67-year-old now sits throughout most of these performances.) His band includes his son, Nicholas, on drums, as well as the veteran bassist Leland Sklar.

The October 5th opening night setlist at the BB&T Center leaned leaning heavily on the musician’s extensive (and hugely successful) solo career–which earned him seven U.S. #1 singles–plus a handful of Genesis hits, among the evening’s 20 songs.

The limited engagement by the classic rock legend runs through Oct. 28. (See dates below.) Tickets are available here and here.

“About three or four hundred years ago, I was in a band called Genesis,” Collins said, to big applause. “We’re great friends, we just don’t work in the same office anymore.”
