Singer-songwriter, guitarist and former member of the Eagles Don Felder released his new solo album, titled American Rock ‘n’ Roll, on April 5. The album is Felder’s third solo effort and first solo album since Road to Forever in 2012.

The new album, announced on Jan. 25, includes several A-list guests, among them Sammy Hagar, Slash, Bob Weir, Alex Lifeson, Mick Fleetwood and Joe Satriani.

Listen to several tracks below.

On March 14, a second track (with Hagar, Weir and Satriani) was released.

Felder served as a member of the Eagles for 27 years and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Felder originated the music and co-wrote the Eagles’ biggest hit, “Hotel California,” along with fan favorites like “Victim of Love” and “Those Shoes.” His guitar work can be heard on songs like “Hotel California,” “One of These Nights,” “New Kid In Town” and others.

Felder said, in a press release, “It’s such a wonderful feeling to be a new member of the BMG family. They are an incredible company run by great people. I’m so excited and happy to be part of this amazing group and work side by side on my new album with them.”

After leaving the Eagles in 2001, Felder became a New York Times bestselling author with his memoir Heaven and Hell: My Life in The Eagles.

Says the press release, “Growing up in the Gainesville, Fla., local music scene, Felder encountered a number of the greatest talents that would go on to change rock and roll history. In high school, he formed a band with a young Stephen Stills; Felder also gave guitar lessons to a teenaged Tom Petty at the local music store, and the Allman Brothers were also local pals.”

Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Felder found himself working both with the Eagles and in sessions and live performances for numerous music legends spanning the musical spectrum: the Bee Gees, Bob Seger, Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper, Kenny Loggins, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Boz Scaggs, Warren Zevon, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Paul Simon, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and Stills.

He released Airborne, his first solo album, in 1983, during the period that the Eagles had broken up. It was his only solo album until 2012’s Road to Forever. Felder last performed with the Eagles in 1999.

Don Felder is a wonderful guitarist. The Eagles were fools to get rid of him. Henley’s ego will almost certainly make sure that there is never any reconciliation. It’s very sad.

Love Felder…Though at this point he is better off without the Eagles they are all holding on not making new music just milking the old stuff for ridiculous ticket prices and thats fine but I think this is more a positive direction!

The songs are okay but his voice isnt very good, he’s a good person and yes Henley has a great big ego thats plain to see they the Eagles have Vince Gill the better Voice than Henley or Frey so why change it Felder does not need them.

The Eagles are “already gone”. There can be no Eagles without both Henley AND Frey. This new group with Vince Gill should be called The Eagills or Not The Eagles.

There’s a reason Henley and Frey handled the vocals.

“The Eagle” as Henley is the only original member of the band.
