After much discussion, Steven Tyler has finally announced the details of his solo tour. The Aerosmith legend used last night’s (5/2) benefit concert with his country backup band, Loving Mary, at New York City’s Lincoln Center to share details. Tyler’s 19-city “Out on a Limb” tour will play intimate-sized venues beginning July 2nd in Las Vegas and continue through September 13th in Toronto. That last show, incidentally, is three days before Aerosmith’s only current U.S. date. The band will perform at a festival near San Diego, CA on September 16th (see below).

Tyler has recorded a country album for the Nashville-based Big Machine Label Group’s Dot Records, and has to date released two songs: “Love is Your Name” and “Red, White & You.” So far very few specifics have been announced on the T Bone Burnett-produced album, including a release date.

The concert presentation Steven Tyler…Out on a Limb is directed by Brett Ratner (best known for the Rush Hour action comedies and X-Men: The Last Stand). It gives audiences a never-before-seen look at the classic rock legend as he shares in-depth stories, photos and insights from stage and performs alongside his seven-member, Nashville-based band, Loving Mary. Yup, Tyler performing with a fiddler.

At the Lincoln Center performance at David Geffen Hall, Tyler reminisced in between songs and shared photos on a large screen of his family, his childhood and from throughout his career.

He noted that he “was born two blocks from here” and how his forebears had performed as the Tallarico Brothers Quartet, referencing his own legal surname.

Tyler focused largely on Aerosmith hits, as he began the performance with “Sweet Emotion,” “Jaded” and “Cryin'” (accompanying himself on the harmonica, which he tossed to a grateful audience member).

“That song isn’t country,” he said. “Wondering what I’m doing in Nashville? Maybe I still have a thing for Ellie Mae Clampett,” referencing the comely Beverly Hillbillies character. “I like girls that sleeps with their boots on. So following my passion to Nashville was for me like following the North Star to Bethlehem.”

He then screamed: “Oh, Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz” as he and Lovely Mary launched into a rousing cover of “Piece of My Heart.”

The performance and auction benefitted Janie’s Fund – named after the Aerosmith hit “Janie’s Got A Gun” – a collaboration between Tyler and the non-profit organization Youth Villages that was established to help girls overcome the trauma of abuse and neglect. Tickets for the “Out on a Limb” tour go on sale May 14. There are a lot of open dates so expect some additions. Click here to purchase.
