Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford continue to fill up their calendars, collectively as Squeeze. The band, which enjoyed a string of hit singles in the U.K., thanks to Difford and Tilbrook’s razor-sharp songwriting, have resumed a regular tour schedule in recent years.

In 2017, Tilbrook and Difford made changes to their band lineup, with a new bassist, Yolanda Charles, and percussionist, Steve Smith. They join existing drummer Simon Hanson and keyboardist Stephen Large.

They released a lively new album, The Knowledge, last October, their first since 2015’s Cradle to the Grave, and supported it with U.K. and U.S. tours.

When their Fall 2017 dates were announced, the band wrote: “Please don’t be disappointed if you find we are not coming to your part of the world. There will be another tour next year at some point to cover where we have not managed to fit in this year.”

After several months away from the stage, they returned in April and May with dates in Australia and Japan. They’ve booked many U.K. summer festivals.

Difford wrote a book, Some Fantastic Place: My Life in and out of Squeeze, which came out in the U.K. last fall. It’ll be published in the U.S. this fall. He’s booked various U.K. dates to support it.

Tilbrook has his own solo tour with a handful of U.S. dates and an extensive U.K. run this autumn, billed as “An Acoustic and Electric Mashup.” (See below.)

In our review of their Nov. 19 performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre, Best Classic Bands wrote: “The current version of Squeeze tops any other. Hands down.”

Squeeze developed a strong fan base thanks to regular touring and such well-crafted songs as “Tempted,” “Another Nail in My Heart,” “Goodbye Girl” and “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” It’s a rare Squeeze song that audience members don’t sing along to every lyric.
