Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

This story is from 2017. If the rumors turn out to be true—and at this point it is only a rumor—two members of Rush may be starting a new band. According to radio personality Eddie Trunk, who is a friend of the band, singer/bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson may be working on a new project, which, says Trunk, would appropriately be called LeeLifeson.

In an article titled “Latest Rush News” on the Cygnus-Xi.net website, Trunk responded to a question from a fan about Rush’s future by saying, first, that drummer Neil Peart is definitely keeping to his word by not performing again. His retirement, however, is not going to keep the other two from creating new music, Trunk told the website.

Trunk’s statement reads, in part, as follows. The “he” referenced at the beginning is Peart:

“He’s out. I think he’s done…done…done. However, Geddy is the total opposite. I talked to Geddy a couple times… and Geddy told me he is actually reinvigorated. He told me at the time he made some changes to his diet which helped his voice…and he had a ton of energy, and he wanted to make music and continue in some way.

“Alex seems to be somewhere in the middle. Alex has said publicly he absolutely wants to do some stuff again. He’s doing some producing, he’s doing some writing.

“There has been talk about a band called LeeLifeson, which would be the two of them going out and doing stuff together. They would never call it Rush. Those guys are too classy…they would never do that… They would call it potentially LeeLifeson, maybe play some Rush tunes and make new music, because they want to continue to create new music as well.

“I’ve heard rumors about that….it’s up to them…”

Again, that word—rumors. So if you’re a Rush fan, don’t get too excited yet. Maybe get two-thirds excited.
