The Revolution, the band Prince himself formed, have begun the second part of their tour. The original leg began with an April 21 performance at Paisley Park in Minneapolis, MN, dubbed “Celebration 2017,” to mark the one-year anniversary of Prince’s death. Each night the band’s performance features music from their catalogue of hits, highlighting classic cuts from the Purple Rain soundtrack which is getting a deluxe 3-CD/1-DVD reissue from Warner Bros. Records on June 23.

In addition to the 2015 Paisley Park Remaster and songs from the vault and previously unreleased, the deluxe edition includes single edits and B-sides and a never-seen on DVD of Prince and The Revolution Live from the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY, in 1985. Full track listing and pre-order here.

It had been over three decades since the Revolution had performed a full show together.

The Revolution formed in 1979 when Prince joined drummer Bobby Z and keyboardist Matt (Doctor) Fink. Over the next four years, several formations would exist. The final lineup included Lisa Coleman on keyboards/piano, Wendy Melvoin on guitar and BrownMark on bass. The Revolution was credited on three Prince studio-albums: Purple Rain, Around the World In a Day and Parade, while some members also played on 1999. Together, they earned multiple #1 hits, as well as two Grammy Awards and an Oscar, with the song “Purple Rain,” for Best Original Song Score in 1985.
