‘Tis the season for Electric Light Orchestra fans. Jeff Lynne has just confirmed U.K. tour dates for next April to promote the forthcoming Jeff Lynne’s ELO album, Alone In The Universe, which is being released globally this Friday, November 13th on Columbia Records. Tickets go on sale at 9 AM GMT, and word is plenty more dates are still to come.
There’s been one gift after another for fans of the symphonic rock group ever since Lynne made his surprise summertime announcement that he’d be resurrecting the project under a new moniker – Jeff Lynne’s ELO – and sharing his first non-solo music in 14 years. The band may have a slightly different name, but it’ll be the same signature orchestral swirls and shimmering guitars ELO made famous in the 1970s and ’80s. Lynne sings and performs all of the instruments on Alone In The Universe, which he recorded at his Los Angeles home studio over the course of 18 months.
In September 2014, Lynne delighted a crowd of 50,000 with his first public concert in nearly three decades at London’s Hyde Park. Check out Best Classic Bands’ review of the show, recently released on DVD and Blu-ray via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Ahead of his new record and 2016 tour, Lynne plays an intimate show at London’s Porchester Hall on November 9th to celebrate his forthcoming release. Also, if you haven’t seen it yet, check out the music video for the dreamy ballad, “When I Was A Boy,” the album’s first single.
