Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson Writing Memoir

Bruce DickinsonHe’s a competitive fencer who has flown commercial airplanes, successfully battled cancer, and fronted one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time for over 30 years. (See our On This Day item on him here.) Now Iron Maiden’s legendary vocalist Bruce Dickinson will be sharing his fascinating stories in an official autobiography, tentatively scheduled to be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook formats in fall 2017, with a paperback edition to arrive the following year.

“It was flattering to be approached to write a book about my experiences, and it seems an appropriate time to do this as I will have plenty of time on tour next year to work on a book,” the singer says.

Iron Maiden had to push back their world tour due to Dickinson’s battle with throat cancer, but now that he’s been given the go-ahead by doctors, he’ll even be flying the very Boeing 747 – a customized jet dubbed “Ed Force One” – that will take the band all over the world to promote their 16th album, The Book of Souls. “I am sure flying the 747 out round the world on tour will add to the tale with some unusual scenarios!” Dickinson says.

“There’s no one like Bruce,” HarperCollins publishing director Jack Fogg says. “He’s a total one-off; engaging, funny, warm, self-deprecating – a British eccentric in its very best form.”

We’ll keep you posted as more info about the book becomes available. Iron Maiden’s forthcoming tour runs February 6th through August 4th of next year, making stops all over the world, from Nevada and New York to Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Austria and beyond. A full list of tour dates announced thus far can be found on the band’s official website.
