Alice in Chains-KravitzThe highly anticipated Not In This Lifetime summer stadium tour by Guns N’ Roses has begun to fill the opening slots of its shows. The first acts up to play before the hard rock superstar band with founders Slash and Duff McKagan back in the fold with Axl Rose are Alice In Chains and Lenny Kravitz.

Alice In Chains already opened the first two large-venue appearances by Gn’R at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 8th and 9th (following their surprise April 1st club show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles). The Seattle-based band will open the first five shows of the tour: Detroit, Washington, DC, Kansas City and two concerts in Chicago (see tour dates below). Then they’re off on their own 11-date tour from July 6th through 25th.

Kravitz joins Guns for four concerts: July 19th and 20th in Foxboro, MA and July 23rd and 24th in East Rutherford, NJ. “I don’t normally do gigs like this,” he told Rolling Stone. “But sometimes you’ve got to do things for the fun of it, for the experience. I’m looking forward to playing with them and celebrating them coming back together.”

That leaves 16 of the 25 tour dates still open: five between July 6th in Cincinnati, OH and July 19th in Toronto, ON, then 11 more between July 27th in Atlanta, GA and the final show on August 22nd in San Diego. (Alice In Chains could conceivably return to play some or all of those final leg dates.)

We’re sure the politicking, jockeying and horse-trading among agents and managers to get their acts on those high-profile concerts is quite intense. Best Classic Bands will update this story as soon as further openers are announced.
