Eagles performing “Take it Easy” in Greensboro, NC, October 17, 2017

The return of Eagles—with Deacon Frey (son of the late Glenn) and country star Vince Gill now firmly integrated into the lineup—kicked into high gear last night (Oct. 17, 2017) with a 23-song set at  the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC.

The concert is the first of five “An Evening With the Eagles” shows set for October in North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Michigan. Lead vocals are split among Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Gill and Frey (the latter two on songs previously sung by Glenn Frey).

The band opened last night’s set with “Seven Bridges Road,” the Steve Young-authored song that first appeared on their 1980 Eagles Live album. It was followed by “Take it Easy,” co-written by Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne. Here it was sung by 24-year-old Deacon Frey, who, along with Gill, first replaced the late co-founder last July at the Classic West and East concerts.

[The Eagles are among the handful of acts that remove material from YouTube faster than a newly married couple’s clothes on their wedding night, so the videos below may have already been deleted.]

Schmit intro’d one of his contributions to the band’s catalog: “This next song is a song that I brought a piece of Don and Glenn way back when I was first asked to join the band. We developed it over a few weeks,” before he sang lead on “I Can’t Tell You Why.”

Before the band played another Walsh favorite, he joked: “I know you know it because your parents played it the whole time you were growing up. That might explain why you’re a little different from the other kids… ”

Was there, too. It was a wonderful concert. Deacon and Vince were wonderful additions. Been wanting to see them for 40 years. Finally did Tuesday night! Joe Walsh is an incredible musician and it was wonderful to see Don Henley in person. Great night, all around.
