Update (June 7): Watch the performance of “Midnight Rider” by Derek Trucks, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley honoring the late Gregg Allman. But that’s no ordinary guitar that Trucks is playing. We’re told that it’s Duane Allman’s 1957 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top. (See it below.)

CMT has announced it will honor Gregg Allman and celebrate his everlasting impact on American music during the 2017 CMT Music Awards with musical tributes from former Allman Brothers Band member Derek Trucks and country stars Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley live from Nashville this Wednesday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Here is the tribute to Allman; watch for Truck’s appearance and that guitar…

“Gregg Allman and The Allman Brothers Band helped create the bedrock foundation of modern southern music,” said CMT President Brian Philips. “Over the weekend of his death, CMT’s most important artists reached out to see how we might honor Gregg at our awards. This tribute will celebrate Gregg Allman’s soul, charisma and enduring artistry. ‘The Road Goes on Forever’, indeed.” Allman was laid to rest in Macon, GA on June 3.

Still hard to believe he’s gone. It’s literally the end of an era and so unbelievably sad. Very few bands moved me as much as The Allman brothers. Gregg might be gone but his music, voice and soul will truly live on forever. I’ve lost alot of my music heroes in the last 2 years but this one hurts the most. RIP GREGG ALLMAN
