Buddy Guy Wins Grammy: Best Traditional Blues Album

The multi-Grammy Award-winning blues icon Buddy Guy has done it again, winning the award for Best Traditional Blues Album for his 2018 release, The Blues Is Alive and Well. The June 15 studio release features guest appearances by Keith Richards and Jeff Beck on the song, “Cognac.” Listen to it below.

The album also includes Mick Jagger (on harmonica) on “You Did the Crime” and James Bay on “Blue No More.” Grammy Award-winning producer/songwriter and longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge produced the album.

The 61st Grammy Awards were held on February 10, 2019.

The Blues Is Alive and Well is the follow-up to Guy’s 2015 album Born to Play Guitar, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums charts. The album marked Guy’s fifth #1 album on the chart and twelfth Top 10 Billboard Blues album.

The recipient of a 2015 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Guy’s career spans over 50 years with just as many albums released. Career highlights include eight Grammy Awards, 37 Blues Music Awards, Kennedy Center Honors, NARM Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement, Billboard Music Awards’ Century Award for distinguished artistic development, Presidential National Medal of Arts, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Guy’s debut studio album has been reissued by Vinyl Me, Please

Guy’s debut studio album, Left My Blues in San Francisco, released by Chess in 1967, is the February Classics Record of the Month from the record club Vinyl Me, Please. The reissue is pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl with complementary listening notes. Details here.
