We’re still around five weeks away from when pitchers and catchers are set to report to Major League Baseball spring training camps. But though many are experiencing frigid temperatures these days, we can’t help but getting warm thoughts with today’s (Jan. 5) news that Billy Joel will be making his annual summer tour of MLB ballparks.
The Piano Man will be returning to many favorites like Boston’s Fenway Park and Chicago’s Wrigley Field, home of the 2016 World Series champion Cubs. He’ll also make a first appearance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Joel’s ballpark tour will include the first concert at the Atlanta Braves’ new SunTrust Park, his first stadium concert in Cleveland, his debut at Minneapolis’ Target Field and a return visit to Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. After a similar announcement in January 2016, Joel added numerous ballparks to his itinerary, so if your city isn’t listed yet, we’ll keep you up to date.
The announcement indicates that American Express cardholders have presales on various dates, depending on the concert. Tickets will be available here. However, you can also try our secondary market partner, Ticket Network, here, where tickets for many of the performances are already available.
Joel, now 67, also continues his monthly residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, where dates have already been announced through May. Since January 2014, Joel has played one show per month at The Garden, an unprecedented run of 40 sold-out shows through April 2017.

Jump into a conversationI love ya, Billy… But I wish to hell you had some new material. I’d love it if you found the muse again, and went into the studio with a Rick Rubin or T-Bone Burnett producing,
It’s a credit to Billy’s catalogue that he can still fill stadiums, even though he hasn’t had a new album in 23 years… But I really can’t imagine paying, say, $100 to sit pretty far back (probably) in a baseball stadium to see a guy I’ve seen many times before, now past his prime, with nothing new to play.
Even if he plays a few “deep cuts,” which I would hope he would, it’ll mostly be the same old hits and I’d rather listen to Songs In the Attic, or the expanded live album from Russia, or watch my old copies of Live From Long Island, the London 1984 telecast, or Live At Yankee Stadium, instead.
